THE POSITION

This Records Specialist 1 position is beginning level technical work maintaining and verifying inmate records for the Department of Corrections (DOC) State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Houtzdale. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Records Specialist 1, your responsibilities will include assisting in the compilation, review, evaluation, and validation of inmate records. You will initially perform your duties under close supervision of a Records Supervisor with increasing independence as established policies, procedures, and processes are learned. Work involves gathering documentation from a variety of sources in response to requests for information; compiling information and preparing correspondence, reports, and other documents; and maintaining up-to-date inmate records. Your work within the SCI will also involve participating in the coordination of transportation for inmates for court appearances or release, processing incoming and outgoing inmate transfer records, and may include photographing and fingerprinting inmates and performing sentence computations. Work Schedule and Additional Information:Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,785.00 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Experience and Training Requirements:Two years of clerical or correctional custodial experience; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Other Requirements:Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.You must meet the PA residency requirement. For more information on ways to meet PA residency requirements, follow the link and click on Residency. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
